We have a number of students at Gustavus who are just starting out in their Japanese learning journey, and are faced with the challenge of learning not one, not two, but three new writing systems. To help students learn Hiragana, which is usually the first of these systems to be taught, is an entertaining game called Hiragana Piranha.
In this game you take the role of a snorkeler who must survive multiple piranha attacks by correctly typing the Hiragana characters before it is too late. The game starts out slow, with just a few piranhas, and gives you both the character and soon after the romanization of the character. As the levels progress however, you see less and less of the romanization, the piranhas multiply and gain speed.
Thanks to Andy at HalfWitGoat.com for a wonderful and useful game. Play the game now!
