The Culpeper Center is heating up campus with warm news and events.
Recently, Culpeper has been enjoying increased success and efficiency using Asana, an online and mobile application which allows team members to manage projects and communicate more effectively. In addition to this innovative news, the Spanish Section of the MLC department has also began to use Asana in their project management, and had an effective meeting on Tuesday, March 18.
Wednesday, March 19, Jeremy, the Director of the Culpeper Language Learning Center, and Jamie Nordlund, a Culpeper crew member, met with Lisa Lamor and Lori Hood from South Central to discuss current situations and collaborate on ideas for improving teaching methods using new technologies. More to come on this in another post.
Of course this week would not have been nearly as amazing without playing Monopoly in Spanish on Thursday’s Foreign Language Game Day. Please come in Thursday’s at 3:30-4:30pm to play! All languages are invited.
Because the Culpeper Center strives to promote foreign languages, the Culpeper Crew will be connecting with language professors in the MLC department and then sharing that information with Gustavus Marketing and Communication. The goal is to share interesting facts, recognize their current research, and give a glimpse into classroom activities.
The Resources & Documentation Team has been recruiting new students for the International Gustie Voices Project. For those of who don’t know, the International Gustie Voices Project will be an online resource that allows students to practice their foreign language skills through cultural and interactive activities. Gustavus students from all parts of the world are filmed and interviewed in their native languages. These filmed interviews are then chopped up and transcribed into manageable clips which will eventually serve as part of these interactive activities. The Resources and Documentation Team is also recruiting volunteers for translation and transcription of these interviews.
Finally, get ready to grab your video cameras and artistic abilities for entrance in our Art and Video contests. But before we get ahead of ourselves, we are receiving help to finalize our entry forms to make sure they are more legally sound.
Feel free to stop by the Culpeper Center if you have any questions or need more information. We’ll be happy to help you.
